GreenTraveller listing for Clynfyw

We try to keep our environmental impact to a minimum and, in the past, we have been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development for our low-impact policies and were voted best Sustainable Tourism Business in 2004 in the Arena Network Wales Environmental Awards.

In 2010 we secured a Gold Award according to the Green Tourism Business Scheme, the highest award available to the tourism industry, and we continue to run the enterprise to Gold Level standard.

Here is a summary of some of the measure we have taken:

All our cottages have recycling facilities
A Reedbed system purifies the waste water from the cottages
We have developed a small horticulture project on site with the aim of providing fruit and vegetables for holiday makers staying here

We have 45-50 ex-caged Chickens rehoused here by the British Hen Welfare Trust, the eggs from which we make cakes for the charity coffee mornings and also sell—local eggs for local people!

Carbon neutral policy – we run an annual tree-planting programme to balance out the carbon produced by visitors coming to Clynfyw

We try to use eco friendly cleaning products, recycled refuse sacks and low energy lightbulbs in all our cottages

All the cottages are fitted with solar panels helping to provide hot water

In 2010 we installed a 17 panel p/v array to produce up to nearly 4kw of solar electricity for sale to the National Grid

In 2012 we fitted a 60Kw log boiler which provides the hot water and central heating needs of all the cottages using logs from the Clynfyw woods. We plant more trees than we cut, so this is truly a carbon neutral source of heat!

In 2013 we became a Champion of Human Rights, accredited by the British Institute of Human Rights

In 2014 we became linked with Tradecraft and endeavour to use Fair Trade products whenever possible. Please ask to see our Fair Trade Policy.

We are now selling and using Traidcraft produce in Clynfyw day sevice, coffee morrnings and cooking.

We have started a list of local producers to help visitors purchase locally sourced foodstuffs from locally owned businesses. This list is ever evolving. If you come accross someone/something worth adding, please just let us know.

The Ecoholidayshop have a lot of other environmentally aware cottage providers on their site. If we are not quite what you are looking for, do have a look as there might be somewhere better there!
